Developer signs £85m contract with Chinese construction firm

Development group Scarborough International Properties has signed an £85m contract with Chinese developer BCEG for the construction of a major residential and commercial neighbourhood in Manchester.

The 24.5-acre Middlewood Locks development is located near the city's Central Business District and will provide 2,215 new homes and 900,000 sq ft of commercial space, including offices, shops, restaurants, canal side footpaths and cycle ways.

The contract – which was signed by Kevin McCabe, chairman of Scarborough, and Mr Xing Yan, managing director of BCEG – is for the first phase of the development.

This phase is scheduled for completion in October 2018, and will include the delivery of 571 homes and associated commercial space.

The first residents of the scheme are expected in March 2018.

The gross development value of phase one of the project is more than £150m and will provide over 300 jobs to the area.

Kevin said: “We are delighted to have signed BCEG for the first phase of our Middlewood Locks development.

“This marks the culmination of many years of hard work and collaboration between all involved, both in the UK and China.”

The managing director of BCEG added: “We look forward to continuing our work with Scarborough on the development of this significant and strategic regeneration project.”
