AFC Wimbledon signs Section 106 agreement for new stadium

The board of AFC Wimbledon has signed a Section 106 agreement which provides authorisation for the construction of its new stadium at Plough Lane.

The agreement – which was signed with Merton Council and GRA Acquisitions – will allow for work to begin on the stadium, as well as 602 new homes, retail space and a fitness club.

The decision brings the club closer to its first game back in Wimbledon for more than 25 years.

Following the signing, councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council, handed the official decision notice to AFC Wimbledon’s chief executive Erik Samuelson.

AFC Wimbledon and GRA Acquisitions Limited are also expected to provide over £1.5m in local health provision and improvements to the local bus, road and cycle network.

Erik Samuelson, chief executive of AFC Wimbledon, said: “This is a momentous day for us.

“Everybody who has helped the club to reach this point must be very proud.

“On a personal note I want to say a particular thank you to Andrew Williams, our project manager, and partner Daniel Norris of law firm Hogan Lovells, who did all the hard work in the background.

“I and the club are massively indebted to them.”
