Former chocolate factory to be transformed into housing

Latimer – part of Clarion Housing Group – has completed the purchase of the Cocoa Works building in York.

The site (pictured above) has been empty for around a decade after previous owners Nestle relocated to alternative premises.

Latimer intends to convert the building into 258 apartments for sale with the scheme having a mixture of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, including a concierge and other community facilities.

The scheme comes with planning permission and has a gross development value of £77m.

“Our ambitious plans will reinvigorate an iconic York building and, at the same time, bring much-needed, high-quality homes to the city,” said Richard White, land director for Latimer.

“This scheme further demonstrates our commitment to providing innovative solutions to meet the country’s acute housing crisis.”

Work is set to begin soon, and an on-site marketing suite will be available from late 2018.
