Kier to deliver £57m student village

Kier has been appointed by the University of Warwick to build a £57m student village.

The project will see the construction firm redevelop Cryfield Student Village and provide 828 new student bedrooms in a mixture of townhouses and cluster blocks, as well as create a new ‘village hall’ containing offices, a laundrette, a post room and student meeting areas.

As part of the plans, the existing five accommodation blocks of the Redfern halls of residences will be demolished to make way for the 12 buildings that make up the village.

The scheme is one of the largest single residential build projects the university has undertaken and forms part of its wider capital projects investment programme, whereby the university is investing on average £59m each year between 2010 and 2020.

“This £57m win is another significant award for Kier in student accommodation and takes the total number of rooms we’re currently providing for the university to over 1,000,” said Mark Pausey, managing director at Kier Construction Central.

“We are looking forward to continuing our strong working relationship with the university to deliver this key redevelopment, which will help meet this rise in demand.”

Kier is building over £100m of facilities for universities across the UK, including the University of Cambridge, University College Birmingham and University of Edinburgh.

Enabling works at Warwick are already underway, with the first students due to move in during summer 2019, with overall completion by Christmas 2020.
