The UK’s safest housebuilders have been awarded by NHBC for their outstanding dedication to health and safety on site.

A staggering 54 sites have been ‘Commended’ in the first round of judging for the NHBC’s Health & Safety Awards 2015 – the sixth of its kind.

Following the assessing and judging of entries, including site inspections by NHBC experts, the ‘Commended’ winners have all adopted high standards of on site best practice.

Those commended will now compete for the ‘Highly Commended’, ‘Regional’ and ‘National’ titles due to be announced on the 3rd July.

“On behalf of NHBC we warmly congratulate all the ‘Commended’ winners on gaining an NHBC Health and Safety Commended Award,” commented Tom Kitchen, NHBC Health and Safety Operations Manager.

“All of those working at the 54 sites have made these awards possible, which recognises their commitment in providing the best in on-site health and safety standards.

“As the very positive start to the year continues, and new home registrations are at their highest levels since 2007, it’s important the industry continues to deliver safe sites.”

“Encouragingly, in the last 20 years construction-sites in the UK have seen significant reductions in the numbers and rates of injuries related to workplace injury assisted by housebuilders across the UK placing health and safety practice high up on their agenda,” Tom added.

In 2012/2013 the HSE reported construction-related deaths had dropped from 50 in 2011/2012 to 44, showing that housebuilders are placing health and safety practice as a priority.

It was also highlighted that over the past 40 years, the number of fatal injuries in construction has substantially decreased.
