An ambitious project to transform the ground of the Premier League champions has moved a step closer.

The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham has accepted an Environmental Statement Scoping Report submitted by Chelsea Football Club for the proposed redevelopment of its Stamford Bridge Ground.

Ieuan Bellis, Team Leader for Planning Regeneration, said the council considered the report to be “generally acceptable”.

The redevelopment of Stamford Bridge will result in a new 60,000 seat stadium which will require the demolition of the previous structure.

It will also see the construction of raft structures to create platforms over a section of London Underground’s District Line adjacent to Fulham Broadway Station and Network Rail’s West London Line, to provide an enlarged concourse area.

Before accepting the report, the council sought views from statutory bodies and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which is an adjoining borough.
