A council has granted planning permission to redevelop part of the ‘Home of Cricket’.

Westminster City Council has granted the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) planning permission to redevelop the south-western corner of the Lord’s Cricket Ground which will include a new Thomas Lord building as well as a new Tavern Pub.

Work is set to begin in autumn 2019 at the earliest because the ground will be used for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Cricket World Cup.

As part of the redevelopment, the new Thomas Lord building will feature offices for MCC staff together with a banqueting suite and a street-facing reception.

The new stand will increase the capacity of Lord’s by 1,082 and an enhancement of the area around the Grace Gates will aim to provide a more welcoming setting for spectators.

As part of the project, the Pavilion will be redeveloped to enlarge the dressing rooms and the current office, physio room and women’s toilets will be converted into space for the management team and a gym.

This is one of a number of projects that will take place as part of the ground’s ‘Masterplan for Lord’s’.

Work on the redevelopment of the Warner Stand began in September this year, and is due for completion in time for the 2017 season.
