Alexander McQueen's home at 17 Dunraven Street

£8.5m celebrity home on the market after refurb

The former residence of fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been put on the market for £8.5m following a refurbishment.

A 16-month renovation has transformed the upper floors of McQueen’s Mayfair residence at 17 Dunraven Street into a 1,790 sq ft duplex penthouse.

The 119-year-old property is now a homage to the late designer, featuring a mirror-lined catwalk, portraits of McQueen and a roof terrace for which he gained permission, but never finished.

Harvey Cyzer, partner at Knight Frank (head of Mayfair & St James’s), said: “This stunning penthouse has been painstakingly refurbished and has all the glamour you associate with one of the world’s most iconic fashion designers: Alexander McQueen.

“It is part of a very exclusive selection of newly refurbished apartments in Mayfair that offer all the mod cons desired by high-end purchasers.”

McQueen purchased the property in April 2009 for a reported £2.53m, before tragically dying in 2010.

After McQueen’s death, 17 Dunraven Street was purchased and repackaged by an investor who sold the property as a maisonette in 2013.

Other former owners include noted author PG Wodehouse and His Highness Alexander Mountbatten, grandson of Queen Victoria.

The pad is now being sold through estate agents Wetherell and Knight Frank.

Peter Wetherell, chief executive of Wetherell, added: “The fashion-celebrity, literary and royal connections provide this spectacular penthouse with an outstanding and interesting provenance.

“The art deco and fashion-inspired interiors are luxurious and glamorous, while the terrace and roof garden provide outside entertaining space.”
