£44bn to be invested in housing over the next decade

At least £44bn will be invested into UK housebuilding over the next decade, according to a recent government paper.

The Construction Sector Deal – announced by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy – will target the building of houses in days/weeks rather than months.

The government plans to deliver 1.5 million more homes by 2022.

Greg Clark, the secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy, said: “We are in the early days of one of the greatest construction programmes in our history…”

“…We are setting out our vision for a construction sector that more than meets these challenges: a sector that can build new homes in weeks – and even days – rather than months; that can deliver new buildings at a third of the cost; that can provide affordable, energy-efficient homes.”
