ALEP lecture discusses whether skyward development is the answer to housing crisis

More than 200 professionals representing the leasehold enfranchisement sector attended the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners (ALEP) spring lecture to discuss the opportunities and challenges arising from skyward development.

The lecture ‘Up on the Roof — Developing Development Value’ focused on how skyward development presented both opportunities and challenges for the sector.

Host Damian Greenish (pictured above) said: “The lecture was an informative assessment of the state of the UK housing market and insight into the possibilities of skyward development.

“More housing is desperately needed — particularly in London — as planning regulations are not keeping up with demand.

“Supply of land is finite, but airspace is not.”

Both Christopher Buckle, director of residential research at Savills, and Robert Holden, geospatial analyst at Knight Frank, also expressed interest in the idea of skyward development as a solution.
