Weston Homes gains resolution to grant planning for £350m urban village in Barking

Weston Homes and the Estates & Agency Group have received a resolution to grant planning permission for the £350m regeneration of the six-acre Abbey Retail Park in Barking.

The Abbey Quays development will cover over 110,563m2 and provide 1,089 new homes of mixed tenure.

This will include 737 private sale one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, with 352 provided as affordable housing.

These apartments will be delivered across 13 residential blocks, split across three buildings ranging from seven to 29 storeys.

The development will also include 2,070m2 of commercial/leisure space, with 1,071m2 of employment space and 470m2 of community space.

Planning permission can be issued once a section 106 legal agreement has been completed between the applicant and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council.

Bob Weston, chairman and chief executive at Weston Homes, said: “The regeneration of this important gateway site into a new waterfront urban village adjacent to Barking town centre forms part of the borough council’s vision of bringing aspirational waterfront living to Barking.

“The £350m Abbey Quays is one of the biggest urban renewal projects in east London, delivering striking new buildings, riverside public spaces, inward investment and job creation.

“The regenerated site will provide much-needed affordable local housing for local Londoners, further enhance the local community and complement the existing centre.”
