HBF holds Westminster summit to plot a route map for government's environmental objectives

The Home Builders Federation (HBF) is holding a summit today (8th January 2020) in Westminster to discuss how the housebuilding sector can meet the government’s environmental targets.

A route map will be set out to determine how the sector can achieve net zero carbon housing in addition to other environmental objectives.

HBF — the representative body of the housebuilding industry in England and Wales — has invited government officials, housebuilders, energy suppliers, material and appliance manufacturers and environmental groups to discuss the scale of the challenge.

According to a poll by Public First, 20% of people have put environmental concerns in their top three biggest issues facing the country.

However, 54% of respondents were not aware of the energy efficiency rating of their current home.

Stewart Baseley, executive chairman at the HBF, said: “The scale and scope of the environmental challenge we face is daunting, but it is one we are committed to tackling.

“Today was the start of a long journey that only underlined the broad range of stakeholders and issues involved.

“We have all committed to work together to develop a route map for how we deliver net zero homes and the range of other linked requirements.”
