Vauxhall towers

£600m Vauxhall towers approved by housing secretary

The secretary of state for housing, communities and local government has approved the development of two landmark towers in Vauxhall.

The £600m 52- and 42-storey towers were designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and will be delivered by developer Great Marlborough Estates.

The scheme will produce a new commercial hub, mixing new homes, offices and retail with a new hotel.

The Vauxhall Cross Island project will create approximately 2,000 jobs and was first approved by the London borough of Lambeth last year, after extensive community consultation.

The north tower will consist of 257 homes, ranging from penthouses to three-bedroom apartments, while the south tower will include a 618-room landmark hotel.

The north tower will also offer access to private winter gardens, communal lounges and a children’s play area.

The two towers will be linked by a 10-storey podium.

New retail and restaurant space will be provided at street level, with office space spread across the lower floors of both towers.

The scheme’s design will also provide safer pedestrian access between the station and the bus interchange by replacing the gyratory currently in place with a new bus station that is safer and more environmentally friendly.
