Taylor Wimpey set to reopen construction sites in May

Taylor Wimpey has announced today (23rd April) its plans for a phased return to construction starting on 4th May.

The company closed its sites, show homes and sales centres on 24th March.

The reopening of the majority of its sites in England and Wales will be a phased process based on detailed new site operating protocols, developed to comply with social distancing requirements.

The first subcontractors are set to return from 11th May, following site preparation for a new method of operating by Taylor Wimpey’s site management teams starting 4th May.

All staff, subcontractors and suppliers are required to sign up to the new Taylor Wimpey Covid-19 Code of Conduct in advance of starting on site.

Sales centres, show homes and regional offices will remain closed.

The company will continue to provide service to customers by selling remotely and digitally.

Pete Redfern, chief executive at Taylor Wimpey, commented: “Our first priority is always the health and safety of our customers, employees, subcontractors and suppliers.

“The past few weeks have been unlike anything we have seen before, presenting huge challenges for businesses and individuals, and we support the measures put in place by the government to reduce the spread of the virus and safeguard the NHS and public health.”

Despite the closure, the company’s order book has continued to increase, standing at £2,677m at the week ending 19th April 2020.
