A home used in the TV drama series Downton Abbey has been sold for £5.9m to a British buyer.

The Manor House in Byfleet, Surrey, is the major portion of the Grade II residence and was home to Maggie Smith’s character Lady Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey.

The eight bedroom property offers 6,000 square feet of living space and comes with four reception rooms and around 19 acres of land.

A further four lots on Byfleet Manor are also available to buy including three additional residential dwellings and a development plot.

The 7th century manor was altered and divided into several separate residential homes in the 1950s and includes the Manor House, Manorside West, Palace Cottage and The Willows.

The estate is located at the end of a country lane on the fringe of a nearby village, which is only just over 20 miles from the centre of London.
