Over 200 jobs lost after construction firm enters administration

A Canterbury-based construction contractor has entered administration.

Cardy Construction Limited appointed Duncan Beat and Alexander Kinninmonth of RSM UK as joint administrators earlier this month.

The decision was made by Cardy’s directors following losses and the resultant unsustainable cash flow pressure arising on certain contracts.

As a result, Cardy ceased trading and all employees were made redundant.

Duncan Beat, restructuring advisory partner at RSM, said: “We are working with our professional advisers to assess the company’s contracts and sell the remaining assets with a view to maximising realisations for creditors.

“It is anticipated that the company’s unfinished projects will now be completed by local contractors and it is hoped that a number of Cardy staff and suppliers and sub-contractors will be re-employed by those contractors.”

Founded in 1993, Cardy employed over 200 staff and subcontractors.

The firm specialised in large-scale construction contracts across Kent and the South East.

In January 2012, Cardy was contracted to replace the roof of the Archives Reading Room at Canterbury Cathedral.
